WHAT IS MBENG ADIO MUSHROOM FARM (MAMF) OUTREACH & TRAINING?
The MAMF and GPAF partnership will shift the balance of global economic power and address food security through commercial organic mushroom production starting in Africa.
Nigeria’s rapidly growing population of over 200 million comprising mostly youth, has a more than 78% adult literacy rate but is struggling primarily in an unsophisticated agricultural economy that is, Ironically, largely dependent on diminishing revenues from mining and oil production. Women who work in farming and many other disparate jobs, are both the primary income earners, and accountable to maintain all household and community functions. These dynamics have led to high youth unemployment and underemployment, and a resulting agricultural economy that is not equipped to provide food security or sufficient family and state income, due in part to generational farming practices that reduces the productivity of the land, increase crop waste pollutants. This limits the number of cash crops available for export and lowers the country’s capacity to feed a burgeoning population. Many of the resilient women In Nigeria take on an increasing number of odd jobs, while more than 12 million non-commercial farmers bet on seasonal yields to support them during the year. Whole communities depend on foreign AID through Non-Government Organizations (NGO’s ) for sustenance, coupled with the unavoidable practice of importing expensive but needed food products, and sometimes, the unemployed idle youths fall prey to unproductive activities like taking unreasonable risks to flee and seek opportunities as immigrants in other countries.
The worldwide market produced over 77 million tons of mushrooms worth approximately $1.1 trillion USD from 2014 to 2018. Africa produced about $1.9 billion as a share of the market during that period, with South Africa accounting for about 72% or $1.3 billion USD of the Africa market share. MAMF is well positioned to expand the mushroom market into West and Central Africa and to capture at least 3% of the current Africa market which will drive gross revenues at a run rate in excess of $13 Million USD annually with just our first 10 mushroom farming operations. These operations will be managed by experienced and progressive farmers who understand the productions and marketing requirement for mushroom production.
The MAMF/GPAF Environmentally Controlled organic mushroom farm sites are configured to accommodate production of a wide range of mushroom species including Agaricus, Oyster, Shiitake and others twelve months per year without seasonal limitations. Staffed by trained youth ambassador employees, our in-house planting to harvest operations are complemented by our regional sales team; and logistics services partner Global PanAfrican Farms Inc for value-add processing, packaging and customer delivery in the Nigerian and global market. The build out of our self-contained farm sites are configured to produce consistently high-quality crop yield raising to over 500,000kg of mushrooms annually. The model is ideal to meet the demand of our high-end restaurant, supermarket, wholesale and institutional customers. Our model also offers a robust opportunity for women and existing mushroom farmers to contribute to and share in commercial mushroom revenues on an unmatched scale. In fact, our core business is designed to benefit and empower women as we grow the company revenues in excess of $13 million over the next 5 years.
